AR35.20-P-0109R Remove/Install Rear Tie Rod



Remove/Install Tie Rod

Shown On Model 230.475:






DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


CAUTION:
- While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of all aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected

- See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts


NOTE: Installation: Tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components only in curb condition.

1 Empty, fill rear air spring using STAR DIAGNOSIS

CAUTION: Installation: Always fill rear air springs with vehicle in riding height position otherwise springs will be damaged beyond repair.

2 Remove rear wheel
3 Lift wheel carrier (7) using transmission jack and transmission platform until rear axle shaft is approximately horizontal

NOTE: Installation: Tighten tie rod bolted connections.

4 Detach tie rod (4) from wheel carrier (7)

NOTE: Installation: Fasten bolted connection loosely.

5 Detach tie rod (4) from rear axle carrier (1)

NOTE: Installation:
- Fasten bolted connection loosely.
- Install new tapping plate (4c).

Inspect
6 Inspect rubber mounts (4a, 4b) of tie rod (4).

NOTE: If rubber mounts are damaged, install a new tie rod.

7 Install in the reverse order
8 Perform chassis alignment check.
