Authorizing TELE AID emergency call
The ECE version is authorized ex works, in other words the services are technically fully operative at the time of delivery; only the TELE AID application with the customer has to be filled out and faxed to the Customer Assistance Center (CAC). The following description is for informational purposes only:
With the authorization the service provider authorizes to actuate a TELE AID emergency call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related.
Authorization is required in the following cases:
^ When the system is initially started up.
^ When the telecommunications control unit (N112) is exchanged
^ When the vehicle owner changes
^ After the service period has expired (this process is running automatically in the background)
During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
^ The validity of the SIM card (for TELE AID) that is installed in the telecommunications control unit (N112)
^ The vehicle identification number (VIN)
If the system is not authorized a TELE AID emergency call is not possible. In this case "only" a 112 emergency call (without emergency call telegram) is transmitted, which does not require authorization. If no authorization is received the indicator lamp in the SOS switch (S93/3s1) illuminates, and a fault message appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
Misuse of emergency call alarm is subject to punishment.
Procedure when alarm is triggered erroneously
If an emergency call is triggered erroneously in the workshop it is not possible to interrupt it even disconnecting the battery. In this case always wait until voice contact is made with police. Then inform police of unintentional actuation to prevent rescue vehicles from starting their rescue service.
Authorization TELE AID telediagnosis
With the authorization the service provider grants the permission to activate a TELE AID telediagnosis call (roadside assistance call) and to activate a TELE AID information call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related. If the system is not authorized a TELE AID diagnosis call and information call is not possible. If no authorization is received the indicator lamp in the SOS switch (S93/3s1) illuminates, and a fault message appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
Authorization is required in the following cases:
^ When the system is initially started up.
^ When the telecommunications control unit (N112) is exchanged
^ When the vehicle owner changes
During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
^ The validity of the SIM card (for TELE AID) that is installed in the telecommunications control unit (N112)
^ The vehicle identification number (VIN)
To ensure a trouble-free operation, the following should be avoided during authorization:
^ Activating telediagnosis
^ Turning off ignition
^ Switching off the telephone
^ Setting TELE AID to diagnosis mode (via STAR DIAGNOSIS).
For questions concerning authorization, deauthorization and diagnosis contact CAC Maastricht.
Authorization procedure for TELE AID emergency call and TELE AID telediagnosis
Things that have to be done in advance:
^ The salesperson must submit the application together with the user and complete the transfer process to the user.
Application and application shipping for TELE AID
The salesperson has to fully prepare the TELE AID application form together with the user and send it.
When filling out the application ensure that the data (e.g. vehicle chassis number, vehicle license plate) is completely and correctly entered, otherwise it is not possible to perform the authorization. After the application is filled out it is faxed to the CAC (Customer Assistance Center).
Reading out DTC's
^ Read the fault codes of the telecommunications control unit (N112) via STAR DIAGNOSIS.
^ Compare the chassis number that is stored in the telecommunications control unit (N112) to the chassis number listed in the vehicle registration.
^ If errors at the vehicle and at the telecommunications control unit (N112) can be ruled out, then the CAC is to be contacted.
The CAC helps authorizing TELE AID. Chassis number and fault codes are required for this purpose. Moreover, they check whether the access authorization date coincides with the date specified by CAC.
The CAC clarifies together with dealer the error cause for the services (TELE AID emergency call/telediagnosis). Then authorization is performed again.
Authorization in the event of control unit exchange
In the event of a control unit exchange the telematics SIM card remains in the telecommunications control unit (N112). A SIM card is already installed in the replacement unit.
To ensure that the services function properly after the replacement, the serial number of the new Telematics SIM card (ICCID) must be read out of the telecommunications control unit (N112) using STAR DIAGNOSIS and sent to the CAC (Customer Assistance Center) along with the chassis number. To do this, the form for the "control unit exchange/subsequent license number application of telematics services TELE AID, B20.601.00.188.20B". The services are not fully operative until the CAC has processed the data.
If a transfer of coordinates from the old control unit to the new telecommunications control unit (N112) is not possible via STAR DIAGNOSIS, an authorization process has to be performed to align the service parameters with the CAC. To do this, the communication of the telecommunications control unit (N112) with the CAC is to be started. Please follow the instructions in STAR DIAGNOSIS.
