COMPLAINT:

Cracking/creaking noises from the steering plate at the front axle carrier may occur when steering. This is mainly heard when the vehicle is stationary or when the vehicle is moving slowly.

CAUSE:

Relative movement between the frame-type integral support and steering plate can cause the plate to make contact with the frame-type integral support of the front axle, which in turn causes noises.

REMEDY:

On vehicles of model series 211/219, replace the retaining plate on the frame-type integral support (subframe).

Tightening torque for threaded connection securing retaining plate to frame-type integral support (subframe):

Model series 211/ model series 219, except 4x4: 110 Nm

Tightening torque for threaded connection securing rack-and-pinion steering to frame-type integral support and retaining plate:

Model series 211 / model series 219, except 4x4: 1. stage 70 Nm, 2nd stage + 90°
