Radio mode function sequence (AM/FM)
The antennas in the rear window receive high frequency (HF) signals for the FM and AM (MW) radio frequency bands. The following useful signals relevant for the radio reception are modulated onto these HF signals:
- Music signals
- Speech signals
- Data signals (e.g. VICS signals for current traffic information)

These HF signals are forwarded to the left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) and amplifier module 1, window antenna (A2/71) (model 211.2 only) via direct lines. These amplifiers filter the frequencies of the radio frequency bands out of the received HF signals and amplify them. The amplified signals are then sent over coaxial lines (FM, AM) to the tuner integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit where they are demodulated.

The demodulated audio signals on vehicles with code 810 Sound system are routed from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier (N40/3) where they undergo final amplification. The audio is then output by the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
- Bass box speaker (H4/17)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

The audio signal for the bass box speaker travels via MOST from the "audio equipment" to the sound system amplifier and from there, via the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9), along direct lines to the bass box speaker.

In vehicles except code 810 Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the "Audio equipment" on the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker group
- Right front door speaker group
- Left rear door speaker group
- Right rear door speaker group
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)

The function sequence for the radio mode also includes the following subfunctions:
^ AM tuner function
^ FM tuner function with phase diversity

AM tuner function
The useful signals of this radio frequency band are broadcast using AM. The AM tuner integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit demodulates these signals. In other words, it separates the useful signals (audible frequencies) fro m the carrier signal (inaudible).

FM tuner function with phase diversity
The useful signals of this radio frequency band are broadcast using FM. The FM tuner integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit demodulates these signals. In other words, it also separates the useful signals (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible).
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit also switches between the antenna amplifiers, depending on the reception quality. This function runs automatically.

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit also switches automatically between the antenna amplifiers, depending on the reception quality.

Function sequence, disk and MP3
A single DVD player is integrated in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. This DVD player can play the following media and formats:
- Video DVD
- Audio DVD
- DVD-ROM (Audio/video data)
- Audio CD
- CD-ROM (Audio or video data)
- MP3

The user interface for controlling the DVD functions (e.g. track selection) and display of supplemental information (e.g. track) is accomplished on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Music Register function sequence
The "Music register" function enables audio CDs to be stored on the hard disk in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The stored music files can be called up as desired.
