GF82.60-P-2020TM Media Interface Function

GF82.60-P-2020TM Media Interface Function
- with CODE (518) Media interface

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"

Depending on the equipment version, one of the following audio devices is installed (hereinafter called "Audio equipment"):
- Radio (A2), with code 510 Audio 20 with CD changer
- Radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56), with code 525 MB Audio 50 APS radio or with code 511 Audio 50 APS with DVD changer
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3), with code 528 COMAND with DVD changer, with code 527 COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code 512 COMAND APS with DVD changer

General information
The media interface function is also referred to as a Universal Consumer Interface (UCI). It allows the following portable terminals to be connected to the "Audio equipment" via an adapter cable, the media interface electrical connector 1 (X18/67), the media interface control unit (N125/1) and the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST):
- AUX devices (class 1)
- iPod or Universal Serial Bus (USB) equipment (Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)) (Class 2)
- Special USB devices (mass storage device) (class 3)

AUX devices without control can be connected to the AUX jack. iPods can be connected to the iPod connector.
USB devices can be connected to the USB jack.
MTP devices can be connected to the USB jack and AUX jack.

The conventional AUX jack installed in the glove box is eliminated.

Operation
If the menu item "Media Int." in the "Disc" menu is activated using the "Disc" hardkey, the default screen appears. The following appears on the display of the radio:
- Status line
- Artist name

- Field of application
- Current track number, track name, graphical time and track display, name of current album and symbol for connected medium (e.g. iPod)

- Function bar
- "Media Int.", "Music", "Medium" and "Sound"

The associated submenus can be called up on the radio display in the following menu items:
- Menu item "Media Int."
- Display meta data
- Active partition
- Normal track order
- Track shuffle
- Category shuffle or folder shuffle (only with USB mass storage device if folder has been selected)

- Menu item "Music"
- File selection
- Folder selection
- Category selection
- Current track list
- Alphabetical sequence
- Folder

- Menu item "Medium"
- Media selection via media list (list of connected devices, e.g. iPod)

- "Tone" menu item
- Treble
- Bass
- Balance/fader
- Surround sound, with code 810 Sound system

Selections and settings can be made via the control buttons on the radio or via the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111).

The menu navigation and display of the connection options are shown on the display of the radio and are dependent on the respective portable terminal connected.

Function
The media interface control unit is supplied with power over 2 direct lines (circuit 31 and circuit 30). If a portable device is connected, it is recognized by the media interface control unit over the following path:
- Adapter cable
- Media interface connector

The media interface connector then sends an electrical wake-up signal to the "Audio equipment" over a direct line. The "Audio equipment" is switched on and simultaneously activates (wakes up) the MOST, if the "Audio equipment" has not been switched on by a previous action from another system.

Simultaneously the audio signals and data are transferred from the portable device connected to the "Audio equipment" over the following path:
- Adapter cable
- Media interface connector
- Media interface control unit
- MOST

The video signals and data are transferred from the media interface connector to the "Audio equipment" over direct lines.

The user can now obtain a display of the audio signals and data or video signals and data on the display of the "Audio equipment" by selecting the "UCI" menu and the respective submenu item. The video signals and data are transferred to the "Audio equipment" display internally in the "Audio equipment".

Selection of the "UCI" menu item and the specific submenu item is possible using one of the following controls:
- Buttons on "Audio equipment"
- Multifunction steering wheel button group

The control signals from the buttons on the "Audio equipment" are processed internally.
The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the "Audio equipment" over the following path:

- Steering Local Interconnect Network (LIN
- Steering column module control unit (N80)
- Controller Area Network bus Class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Controller area network bus, class B (interior compartment) (CAN B)

After evaluation of the control signals in the "Audio equipment", they are forwarded by the "Audio equipment" to the portable device connected over the following path:
- MOST
- Media interface control unit
- Media interface connector
- Adapter cable

The portable device connected evaluates the control signals and sends the corresponding audio signals and data to the "Audio equipment" over the following path:
- Adapter cable
- Media interface connector
- Media interface control unit
- MOST

The video signals and data are transferred from the media interface connector to the "Audio equipment" over direct lines.

The video signals and data representation on the "Audio equipment" display takes place internally in the "Audio equipment". On vehicles with code 810 Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the "Audio equipment" via the MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), from where they are sent via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
- Bass box speaker (H4/17)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

The audio signal for the bass box speaker travels via MOST from the "Audio equipment" to the sound system amplifier and from there, via the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9), along direct lines to the bass box speaker.

On vehicles except code 810 Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the "Audio equipment", over direct lines, to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker group
- Right front door speaker group
- Left rear door speaker group
- Right rear door speaker group
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
