GF82.60-P-2003TJA Volume/Tone Adjustments, Function

GF82.60-P-2003TJA Volume/Tone Adjustments, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
- with CODE (498) Japan version

General information
All volume and tone settings can be made on the COMAND operating display and controller unit (A40/3). This is performed either by the user or automatically by the speed-dependent volume control (SDV [GAL]). The volume and sound setting function can be conducted as follows:
^ General function sequence for volume adjustment on right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
^ Function sequence, general volume adjustment and general, expanded tone settings over control buttons and rotary actuator on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
^ SDV (GAL) function sequence, except code 810 Sound system

In addition to the general tone settings such as bass, treble, balance and fader, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit on vehicles with code 810 Sound system also has the "Pro Logic 7" surround sound function.

Operating instructions
The volume/tone settings can be made using the following components:
- The + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
- Using the rotary switch of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 30 ON"
^ The COMAND operating, display and controller unit is switched on and an audio source is operating

General volume setting function sequence on right multifunction steering wheel button group
Pressing the + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control enables the volume for the desired audio function to be increased or reduced.

The control signals are routed to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following path:
- Steering Local Interconnect Network (LIN)
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Controller area network bus, class B (interior compartment) (CAN B)
- Instrument cluster (A1)

The tone settings are indicated on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The volume setting can be carried out separately for each audio source. Predefined settings can be selected and reset to the manufacturer default setting via the system settings.

Function sequence, general volume adjustment and general, expanded tone settings over control buttons and rotary actuator on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit allows the volume and tone settings (bass, treble, balance, fader and tone options) to be set manually for each audio source with the rotary actuator. The required tone settings can be performed via the "Sound" menu. They can be set separately for each function (e.g. CD, radio reception, traffic announcements). The control signals are read in and evaluated within the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

The desired settings are transferred to the sound system amplifier (N40/3) via the Media Oriented Transport System (MOST) on vehicles with code 810 Sound system , and vehicles with code 810 Sound system also have the Pro Logic 7 tone option.
If the tone emphasis is changed (balance, fader) the volume relationship between the individual speakers changes relative to each other.

In vehicles except code 810 Sound system the selected settings are processed internally, amplified and then emitted at the speaker system.

Function sequence for speed-dependent volume control
The speed-dependent volume control can be used to adapt the volume to the noise level in the vehicle interior. In this case, the vehicle speed signal is used as the reference value. This procedure will run automatically. After evaluating the relationship indicator, th audio output is matched to the noise level in the vehicle interior.

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit increases or decreases the output level of the audio signals (GAL) depending on the vehicle speed signal.
The vehicle speed signal travels to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following path:
- Instrument cluster
- CAN-B

In vehicles with code 810 Sound system, the audio signals are output by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the MOST to the amplifier for the sound system, from where they are sent to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
- Bass box speaker (H4/17)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

The audio signal for the bass box speaker travels via MOST from the "audio equipment" to the sound system amplifier and from there, via the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9), along direct lines to the bass box speaker.

In vehicles except code 810 Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the "Audio equipment" on the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker group
- Right front door speaker group
- Left rear door speaker group
- Right rear door speaker group
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
