General information
The driver information system is operated using the:
- Control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

The control description comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Audio base function
^ Basic navigation function
^ Basic telephony function
^ Services (Short Message Service (SMS) and address book)
^ Control of audio signals (sound settings)
^ System settings
^ Media interface Universal Consumer Interface (UCI), with code 518 Media interface

Basic audio function
If the basic audio function is activated, then the last executed audio application is started. If another audio application is to be started, then a change must be made in the menu bar and the Audio menu item selected.
The following audio sources can only be selected using the Audio menu item:
^ Radio (amplitude modulation (AM)/frequency modulation (FM))
^ Digital Audio Broadcasting (Digital Radio) (DAB) radio, with code 537 Digital radio and code 833 Great Britain version
^ Compact Disk (CD) audio
^ MPEG-1 audio layer 3 (MP3) (on Digital Versatile Disk (DVD)/ CD)

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

Radio (AM/FM)
If the Radio menu item is activated, the default screen appears.
The following information is shown in the display:
- The current stations and the numbers of their memory locations (station name with the radio data system (RDS))
- A cursor to select the station

Selection or settings using the function bar
- Radio: List of stations, save station, enter frequency, fix frequency, Traffic Announcement (TA)
- Memory: List of stored stations, automatic memory for automatic searching and saving of the stations with the best reception
- FM: Selection of frequency band (medium wave, FM, long wave, short wave)
- Sound: Configuration of audio output

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

DAB radio, with code 537 Digital radio and code 833 Great Britain version
If the DAB radio menu item is activated, the default screen appears.
The following information is shown in the display:
- The ensemble (DAB package for a region)
- The current stations and the numbers of their memory locations
- A cursor to select the station

Selection or settings using the function bar
- DAB: Available subprograms, list of stations, save stations
- Memory: List of stored stations, automatic memory for automatic searching and saving of the stations with the best reception
- Ensemble: Selection of ensemble (DAB package)
- Sound: Configuration of audio output

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

CD audio
If the CD audio menu item is activated, the default screen appears. The following information is shown in the display:
- Number of tracks on the CD
- Current track with elapsed play time
- Artist (if available on CD)
- Album

The following control options are available:
^ Selection or settings using the function bar
^ Title selection with skip function
^ Fast Forward/Rewind

Selection or settings using the function bar
- CD: Play mode (artist, standard track sequence, random track sequence)
- Icons for Start/Stop: Starting and stopping a track
- Track list: List of tracks
- Changer: Selection of player source with code 511 Audio 50 APS with DVD changer
- Sound: Configuration of audio output

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

Title selection with skip function
Operating the left or right control buttons on the radio (A2) plays the previous track or the next track in the list of tracks.

Fast Forward/Rewind
The play position can be changed by pressing and holding the right or left control buttons on the radio.

MP3
If the MP3 menu item is activated, the default screen appears. The following appears on the display:
- Number of tracks in directory on the DVD/CD
- Current track with elapsed play time
- Artist

Selection or settings using the function bar
- MP3: Play mode (e.g. standard track sequence, random track sequence, artist)
- Changer: Selection of player source with code 511 Audio 50 APS with DVD changer
- Sound: Configuration of audio output

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

Basic navigation function
If the basic navigation function is activated, the default screen appears. The following selection options or settings are available via the function bar:
- Guide: selection of points of interest (POI) as the new destination
- Traffic Message Channel (TMC): Detail display of TMC messages
- Route: Route information (arrival time, distance, block route). Only appears when a destination has already been entered.
- Ear symbol: Repeat of acoustic route recommendation
- Destination: Submenu in which destination options (destination entry, intermediate stop, cancel, continue, points of interest) can be set

The following navigation functions can be selected using the Navigation menu item:
^ Destination entry
^ Detail display of TMC messages
^ Route information

Destination entry
The destination is entered via the "Destination" menu item. The default screen appears.

Selection or settings
- Cancel destination-oriented navigation: The destination. oriented navigation is interrupted. The "Continue destination-oriented navigation" menu item appears
- Address entry: Entering a destination address
- From memory: Calling up a destination address from the "Destinations" memory
- From last destination: Calling up a destination address from the temporary "Destinations" memory
- Save destination: Saving an address entered in the navigation system
- From points of interest: Calling up a point of interest (POI) from the POI list
- Intermediate stop: Specifying an intermediate stop (via destination)

Detail display of TMC messages
The TMC menu item provides a detail display of TMC messages. The default screen appears.

Selection or settings
- Display all messages: All TMC messages on the route are shown.
- Read aloud all messages on route: All displayed messages are emitted over the vehicle speakers (Text to Speech (TTS) required).
- Display messages (symbol): Displays messages arranged according to freeways/roads.

If the destination-oriented navigation is not active when the TMC menu item is activated, a list of all available TMC messages is then shown.

Route information
Route information (arrival time, distance, block route) is displayed via the Route menu item. The default screen appears.

Selection or Settings
- Route information: Information such as distance and time left to destination or intermediate stop is displayed.
- In the route browser, the calculated route can be scrolled through using the "Next" and "Previous" menu items.
- Block route: Enables sections of the calculated route to be blocked.

Basic telephony function
The comfort telephony variants, with code 386 Preinstallation for telephone "cell phone", UPCI [UHI] system, and basic telephony are available.
If the basic telephony function (Tel) is activated, the default screen appears.

Selection or settings
- Telephone: Access (selection of phones available in the vehicle)
- SMS: Calling up the SMS function (manages incoming messages only, SMS messages cannot be compiled or sent), with code 386 Preinstallation for telephone "cell phone", UPCI [UHI] system
- Calls list: Access to calls list (missed, accepted, dialed calls)

A connection can be made as follows:
- Entry of telephone number using the keypad on the mobile phone
- Select telephone book entries with left multifunction steering wheel button group or right multifunction steering wheel button group
- Selection of telephone numbers from call list

Incoming calls are signaled acoustically and on the display of the radio control panel and navigation unit. The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

SMS
The SMS service function is activated via the basic telephony function (Tel) and then via the SMS subfunction.

Selection or Settings
- Telephone: Access (selection) of phones available in the vehicle
- Calls list: Access to calls list (missed, accepted, dialed calls)

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

Address book
The address book service function is activated via the basic telephony function (Tel) and then via the address book subfunction.

Selection or settings
- Telephone: Calling up telephone function
- Address book: Calling up address book function

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

Control of audio signals (sound settings)
The audio signals (sound settings) are controlled using the Sound menu item. The default screen appears.

Selection or settings
- Treble: Setting the treble
- Bass: Setting the bass
- Bal/Fad: Setting the balance and fading
- Sound: Setting the tone options, with code 810 Sound system, the Pro Logic 7 can also be selected

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

System settings
The system settings are made using the System menu item. The default screen appears. The setting options are allocated to the following submenus:

The following languages can be selected for the display of the radio and navigation unit:
- Danish
- German
- English
- French
- Spanish
- Italian
- Dutch
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Swedish
- Turkish

System
The following system settings can be made:
^ Display
^ Time
^ Voice
^ Services
^ Display

Display
The following settings can be made:
- Brightness
- Day design
- Night design
- Automatic

The control buttons on the radio control panel and navigation unit are used to make the selection or the settings.

Time
The following settings can be made:
- Time
- Date
- Display format for time and date
- Time zone
- Automatic changeover of daylight saving time/standard time

Voice
The following settings can be made:
- Slow
- Medium
- Fast

Services
The following settings can be made:
- Service status, display and change of status of available services
- Find Bluetooth devices
- Disable Bluetooth
- Reset, the settings are reset to the manufacturer default settings.

Media interface Universal Consumer Interface (UCI), with code 518 Media interface
If the Audio menu item and the UCI function are activated, the following is shown on the display:
- Play lists
- Artists
- Albums
- Genres or audio books

Selection or connection options
- IPods: Are connected to the IPod connector.
- Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices: Are connected to the USB socket.
- Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) devices: Are connected to the USB socket and to the AUX jack.

The selection or settings can be made using the control buttons of the radio control panel and navigation unit or the left multifunction steering wheel button group and the right multifunction steering wheel button group.

The menu navigation and display of the connection options are shown on the display of the radio control panel and navigation unit and are dependent on the respective connected portable terminal.
