GF82.85-P-2011TXB TV-mode, Function
- with CODE (863) Digital/analog TV tuner
- except CODE (494) USA version
General information
The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1) makes it possible to receive analog and digital television channels in the vehicle and view them on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3).
Analog as well as digital television (TV) signals are received over the antenna structure already present. The function is therefore described together. However, it is necessary to note that the TV combination tuner separates the video and audio signals from one another. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:
^ TV signal reception
^ Video signal
^ Audio signal
^ Supplemental information
Operating instructions
The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the control buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
Function requirements
^ "Circuit 15 ON" status
^ COMAND operating, display and controller unit activated via "ON" button
^ Menu item "TV" selected
^ TV-antenna signals available
TV signal reception function
The antenna signals for TV reception are received by the following antennas and routed over discrete lines to the combination TV tuner:
Model 211.0, model 219:
- TV 1, TV 2 antenna
- Left antenna amplifier module (A2/64)
- TV 3, TV 4 antenna
- Right antenna amplifier module (A2/65)
Model 211.2:
- TV 1 antenna
- Right antenna amplifier module
- TV 2 antenna
- Window antenna amplifier module 1 (A2/71)
- TV 3, TV 4 antenna
- Window antenna amplifier module 2 (A2/72)
Video signal function
After the TV signals have been processed in the TV combination tuner, the video signals are output as follows:
- Direct Y/C line
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit
Audio signal function
After the TV signals have been processed in the TV combination tuner, the audio signals in vehicles with code 810 Sound system, are routed via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, from there to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3), and then via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
- Bass box speaker (H4/17)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
The audio signal for the bass box speaker travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via MOST to the amplifier for sound system and from there, via direct lines over the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the bass box speaker.
In vehicles except code 810 Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker group
- Right front door speaker group
- Left rear door speaker group
- Right rear door speaker group
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
Supplemental information
The supplemental information is subdivided into the following categories:
^ TV reception
^ Additional functions
TV reception
TV reception is subdivided into 2 subcategories:
- Analog TV reception
- Digital TV reception
Analog TV reception
The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) receives and processes analog terrestrial television programs broadcast in all standards. The audio quality is limited to "MONO". The TV system operates with a total of 3 reception modules for video and audio signals The phase-locked loop (PLL) tuners that are used cover a reception range of 30 to 866 MHz. The TV combination tuner supports the reception of European and American TV standards. The TV combination tuner has 4 antenna inputs for the TV signals from the various antenna amplifier modules. The antennas are not assigned to any particular tuner, but rather can be used by each tuner in identical manner.
Digital TV reception
In addition to analog television stations, it is also possible to receive terrestrial television stations broadcasting digital signals with the antenna structures already present. The Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB-T) standard is supported. In contrast to analog TV, the audio can be received in stereo here. Switchover from analog to digital TV reception is performed automatically by the TV combination tuner depending on the current reception status. It is not possible for users to switch over themselves. However, switchover between alternative channels as well as between analog and digital reception can be prevented with the "Fix channel" control function. If stations with matching stations names are received (e.g. ARD analog and digital), only one entry is made in the list of stations.
DVB-T allows more programs to be received in better quality with a common antenna, including portable, depending on the reception.
Additional functions
The TV combination tuner provides the following features:
- Video text (pages: 100 to 899)
- Station list of channels momentarily receivable
- Digital image storage
- Last settings
- National settings
Videotext function:
Some stations, primarily in central Europe, offer videotext in addition to their television program. The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is therefore equipped with its own videotext decoder. Only Videotext transmissions with the Latin-American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) character sets are supported, i.e. no Greek or Cyrillic character sets.
