General information
The mobile phone system enables mobile phones of the Personal Digital Cellular (PDC), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Freedom of Mobile Multimedia Access (FOMA) network types to be operated in the vehicle.

The mobile phone system consists of the following component functions:
^ Switch On/Off characteristics
^ Establish call and terminate call
^ Accept call (incl. toggle)
^ Voice control

Operating instructions
The mobile phone system can be operated using the following components:
^ Buttons on the mobile phone
^ Telephone buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)
^ Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
^ Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"
^ The mobile phone system and the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are in perfect working order
^ One mobile phone network is available in sufficient strength and quality
^ Cell phone separation point (X39/37) connected to communication control unit (N123/6)
^ Compatible mobile phone connected to preinstalled cell phone separation point or Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone in vehicle and logged in on COMAND operating, display and controller unit

The various mobile phones can be connected to the communications control unit over the cell phone separation point, depending on the type of network.

A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone can only be operated in the vehicle when a mobile phone is not connected to the cell phone separation point.

Address book
The user can manage all the contact data in the address book (view, edit, add, delete and create). The address book contains the address entries stored in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. In addition, data (names, vCards and standard numbers) can be loaded from the mobile phone telephone book into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit address book when a mobile phone is connected to the cell phone separation point.
The data from the mobile phone's telephone book is also permanently available when the mobile phone is no longer attached to the cell phone separation point. Address entries can only be removed by deleting individual entries or by deleting the entire address book.
The Bluetooth interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) can be used to transmit data from other external devices (e.g. PDA, laptop, etc.) into the address book.

Cards can also be transferred to the address book from an SD card using the Secure Digital (SD) card reader in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. These data are then permanently available as address entries. Address-relevant mobile phone system applications can be directly started and supplied with the stored data via address book entries. Address entries can contain the following information:
- Names (surname and first name)
- Postal addresses (private or business)
- Telephone numbers (private, business, fixed line network, mobile or car)
- Company name
- Geo position (private or business)
- Notes
A total of 150 entries with voice commands (voice tags) is available for the voice control system. The address entries stored in the address book in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and the data loaded from the mobile phone are displayed.

"Private mode"
When in "Private mode" the user can make a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation. Telephone calls are made in "Private mode" when one of the following conditions is given:
- Separation of mobile phone from cell phone separation point during telephone conversation in hands-free mode
- Acceptance of call in hands-free mode followed by activation of "Private mode" menu item on COMAND operating, display and controller unit and display on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Establishment of call using buttons on mobile phone when mobile phone is disconnected from the cell phone separation point and operated via Bluetooth

"Seamless Switch"
"Seamless switch" means either than an existing telephone connection to the mobile phone is held when the phone is separated from the cell phone separation point or that an existing call is routed to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit when the mobile phone is connected to the cell phone separation point.

Toggling
The user can switch back and forth between telephone calls with 2 people. While the user talks to one person on the line, the connection to the other is put on hold. However, voice transmission is interrupted.
