General
The functionalities for the volume and tone settings run in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) before the audio signals are emitted at the speaker system.

The audio amplifier is located in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. If the vehicle is equipped with code 810 Sound system, a digital sound processor enables additional stereo sound settings and an extended final amplification of the audio signals to be performed.

The volume and tone settings are displayed on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

The volume and tone settings are made via the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and the multifunction steering wheel.

Volume setting The volume of the currently selected audio or video source can be adjusted as follows:
^ Using the buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) of the MFL
^ Using the rotary switch of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit

The volume for the traffic announcements can only be adjusted when a traffic message is being announced and the volume for telephone calls only adjusted during an ongoing call.

The adjustment can also be made using:
^ The + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control on the multifunction steering wheel or
^ the rotary switch of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit

Tone setting
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit allows manual tone settings (treble, bass, balance/fader) for each audio source. The adjustment is made using the "Sound" menu in the corresponding operating mode.
For vehicles with code 810 Sound system the surround sound can also be selected.

Speed-dependent volume control (SDV)
The speed-dependent volume control is used to adjust the volume to match the current vehicle speed to the noise level in the vehicle interior.

Mute
If the user presses the "MUTE" function key, the audio source currently audible is muted.

Traffic announcements and navigation system announcements can also be heard when the sound is switched off. To switch off the traffic announcements, press and hold the "Mute" button until "TA" is show on the display's message bar. To switch off the navigation announcements, press the "Mute" button during the announcement.
