Component Identification:
The multifunction steering wheel (MFL) serves to increase active driving safety in road traffic in combination with the instrument cluster. The driver can concentrate on the traffic without distraction when controlling and operating various systems

Function
The MFL allows the driver to operate and query all multimedia services (e.g. radio).
The following systems also can be operated via the MFL:
^ Interior illumination (IBL) (e.g. OFF delay times)
^ Exterior lights (ABL) (e.g. OFF delay times, daytime running lamps)
^ Trip computer (TRIP)
^ Active service system (ASSYST)
^ Tire pressure loss warning (RDW) (for code (477) Tire pressure loss warning)
^ Distronic (autonomous intelligent cruise control) (DTR) (only in active state, no operation) (for code (219) Distronic (DTR))
^ Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) (only (United States Of America)) (for code (359) TELE AID emergency call system)
The system selected by the user is displayed in the upper multifunction display of the instrument cluster. The left fanfare horn and the right fanfare horn can also be operated using the fanfare horn system button and the fanfare horn system button on the MFL, below the impact plate.
The TRIP includes a "last mode" function. When you switch to this system, the last selected submenu is displayed; in the others systems the user is guided to a defined entrance level.
Task, left multifunction steering wheel button group
The scroll forward/back button (S110s1) and the system selection button (S110s3) are included in the left multifunction steering wheel button group.
Each of the systems can be actuated using the system selection button (S110s3). It is possible to "scroll" forward and backward in the systems. You can call up additional submenus using the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) if necessary.
Task, right multifunction steering wheel button group
The right multifunction steering wheel button group contains the buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) and the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3).
The volume for the system currently active can be adjusted with the + and - button, setting of specific functions and volume control (S111s1).
Using this button, in the System settings menu, settings such as increasing or decreasing the OFF delay time of the exterior lights and setting the time can also be made.
A phone call can be accepted and terminated by pressing the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3).
Task, left steering wheel gear shifter, right steering wheel gear shifter (up to 31.5.06) or steering wheel gear shifter MINUS and steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (as of 1.6.06)
In manual shift program "M", the individual forward gears can be shifted directly via the left steering wheel gear shifter and the right steering wheel gear shifter (up to 31.5.06) or the steering wheel gear shifter MINUS and steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (as of 1.6.06).
In sports program "S" or in comfort program "C", the following functions can be used:
^ Adjustment of the shifting range to which the transmission shifts up
^ Shifting into a gear from which the vehicle can be favorably accelerated or decelerated
