1 Move driver's seat towards the rear

NOTE: See owner's manual.

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from electrolytic gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury with caustic burns to eyes and skin from battery electrolyte or from handling damaged lead-acid batteries
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear add-resistant gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.


2 Disconnect ground cables from batteries

NOTE: First the on-board electrical system battery in the trunk and then the starter battery in the engine compartment.

3 Remove water collector
4 Remove ME-SFI control module (N3/10)

NOTE: Unplug electrical connections from left to right.

5 Remove ESP, SPS and BAS control module (N47-5) in driver-side fuse box (F1)

NOTE: Unlock ESP, SPS and BAS control module (N47-5), pull up and unplug electrical connections.

6 Remove left front SAM control module (N10/10) with fuse and relay module (K40/2)
7 Remove electrical connector (1) in driver-side fuse box (F1) from the guide and disconnect
8 Remove control module bracket (2)

NOTE: Unscrew bolt (3) and remove control module bracket.

9 Remove electrical connector (4) in driver-side fuse box (F1) from the guide (5) and disconnect
10 Unlock cover (6) on driver-side fuse box (F1) and pull out upwards
11 Expose wiring harnesses

NOTE: Observe and label installed position.

12 Remove paneling (7) in interior on left side
13 Unscrew bolt and remove lower A-pillar paneling on left side
14 Remove cover below instrument panel (left)
15 Remove footrest

NOTE: Free the floor covering on the driver's side until the footrest is accessible.

16 Unplug electrical connection from ABC control module (N51/2)
17 Unscrew ground lead from electronics ground (left footwell) (W34/1)
18 Pass ground lead and electrical connection of ABC control module (N51/2) through the driver-side fuse box (F1)
19 Pass remaining wiring harnesses through driver-side fuse box (F1) into passenger compartment

NOTE: On vehicles with CODE (220a) Parktronic system (PTS), the cables must be exposed as far as the component and passed through the driver-side fuse box into the interior.

20 Unscrew nuts (8) and remove driver-side fuse box (F1)
21 Install in the reverse order
22 Carry out function check
