An EMERGENCY CALL can be triggered automatically or manually:

Manually,
^ with the aid of the emergency call system pushbutton switch (EMERGENCY CALL, S93/3), if the vehicle is not involved in the accident itself or the driver requires assistance.
For diagnostic purposes : Manually using the handheld tester.

Automatically ,
^ via the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) , in the event of an airbag deployment or severe rear end collision.
^ when the rollover sensor in the emergency call system control unit (EMERGENCY CALL, A35/8) has registered a rollover.

After the phone call between the person involved in the accident and central services (police, fire department etc.) has finished, the voice connection between the E-call Center to the person involved in the accident is maintained. It can only be terminated by the person involved in the accident himself

Emergency call priority
The information, regarding the manner in which an emergency call is triggered, is generated in the emergency call telegram generated by the emergency call system control unit (EMERGENCY CALL, A35/8) . The types of actuation have various priorities:

Highest priority:
1. automatic alarm call

Lowest priority
2. Manual emergency call using EMERGENCY CALL system pushbutton switch (S93/3)

If an emergency call is already active when an emergency is actuated this active call is terminated. The emergency call with lower priority is not started.
If an emergency call with lower priority is already active when triggering, this call is interrupted and the emergency call with the higher priority is started.
