AR41.10-P-0050T Remove/Install Propeller Shaft






Remove/Install

DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

CAUTION: Installation: Replace self-locking nuts and bolts

1.1 Remove/install exhaust system as from flange connection
1.2 Remove/install exhaust system, starting from pipe connection
1.3 Remove/install complete exhaust system
2 Remove heat shields (105d, 105e)
3 Unscrew cross strut (40)
4 Unscrew propeller shaft (1) from transmission (2)

NOTE:
- The flexible coupling (3a) remains on the propeller shaft (1).
- Installation: Mount propeller shaft at transmission.

5 Unscrew propeller shaft (1) from rear axle center assembly (50)

NOTE:
- The flexible coupling (3b) remains on the propeller shaft.
- Installation: Attach propeller shaft to rear axle center assembly.

6 Loosen fitted sleeves on flexible couplings.
7 Unscrew bolts of propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4)
8 Detach propeller shaft (1) from centering journal from rear axle center assembly (50) and transmission (2) and remove downwards.

NOTE: Installation: Pack cavities in the two centering sleeves with multipurpose grease.

9 Disconnect propeller shaft (1) at slide connection

NOTE:
- Only if necessary.
- Installation: Coat splined shaft profile with Molykote grease.

Inspect
10 Check propeller shaft intermediate bearings, flexible couplings, vibration dampers and centering sleeves
- Check for wear and if there is a complaint.
- Remove/install propeller shaft intermediate bearing and replacing deep-groove ball bearing.
- Replace centering sleeve.
- Replace flexible coupling.
- Replace vibration damper.

11 Install in the reverse order.
