AR27.60-P-0901T Remove/Install Electronic Selector Lever Module (ESM)
Remove, Install
Danger:
- Risk of fatal accident from vehicle slipping or toppling off the lift platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer
NOTE:
- The vehicle must be horizontal
- Park vehicle on two or four-column lift platform or over inspection pit
CAUTION: Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts
1 Raise vehicle
2 Detach shift rod (1) from intermediate lever (2) of electronic selector lever module control module (N15/5)
NOTE: Pull locking plate (1b) off shift rod (1) using needle nose pliers
3 Remove selector lever handle (3) with cover
4 Remove cover (4) at selector lever
5 Cover selector lever gate of electronic selector lever module control module (N15/5) with a cloth
CAUTION: Objects that fall into the electronic selector lever module control module can cause damage
6 Remove ashtray housing (5) from center console
7 Unscrew bolts (6a).
8 Open center armrest (7).
9 Remove cable retainer (8).
- With telephone in center armrest.
10 Remove inlaid section (9) and floor panel (10).
11 Unscrew bolts (6b).
12 Remove center console (11) vertically upward and place to the side.
NOTE:
- Do not disconnect electrical connectors.
- Installation: do not trap electric supply leads.
13 Unscrew bolts (12)
14 Disconnect electrical connector (13) at electronic selector lever module control module (N15/5).
15 Detach ignition lock control cable (14) from connecting pipe of electronic selector lever module control module (N15/5).
- Raise locking catch (14a) and press connector (14b) against force of spring into electronic selector lever module control module (N15/5), turn connector (14b) 90 degree and detach ignition lock control cable (14).
16 Remove electronic selector lever module control module (N15/5).
NOTE: Installation: Do not jam any electric cables in between.
17 Install in the reverse order.
18 Read out fault memory with STAR DIAGNOSIS and erase if necessary.
NOTE: Stored diagnostic trouble codes must be processed and erased in the diagnostic trouble code memories after completing the work. The stored faults may result from faulty components, removal and installation work or cables disconnected during test operations or from a simulation.
19 Perform function check.
- If in poor condition: Adjust shift rod
