AR32.25-P-1017TA Remove/Install the Suspension Strut
- with CODE (489) Airmatic (semi-active air suspension)

Shown On Left Suspension Strut:

DANGER
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

CAUTION:
- See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts
- See special information on AIRmatic

1 Position wheels straight ahead.
2 Remove the front wheels.
3 Relieve pressure from the air spring strut (40) using STAR DIAGNOSIS until the residual pressure is reached

NOTE: Residual pressure in spring strut up to 3.5 bar.

4 Disconnect electrical connector (1) at the top of the shift valve
5 Disconnect pressure line connection (40a)

NOTE: Plug the pressure line with blind plug for the duration of the repair operations.

- If pressure line connections (40a) or pressure lines are damaged, repair AIRmatic pressure line connection.

6 Unscrew nuts (2) on air spring strut (40) at front end.
7 Remove front section of fender liner in front fender
8 Disconnect electrical connector
9 Unscrew nut (3) of follower joint of upper transverse control arm (4) on steering knuckle (5).
10 Press follower joint out of steering knuckle (5)

CAUTION: To prevent the steering knuckle from folding down too low, attach a support strap between the upper transverse control arm and wheel carrier.

11 Detach air spring strut (40) from spring link (6)

NOTE: Installation: Tighten the threaded connection at the normal vehicle level in the ready to drive condition.

12 Press down spring link (6), detach air spring strut (40) from spring link (6) and remove sideways and downwards

CAUTION: If replacing or reinstalling the air spring struts (40), check the condition of the air spring struts (40).

13 Install in the reverse order
14 Fill the affected air spring struts using STAR DIAGNOSIS

CAUTION: The wheels must not touch the ground while pressurizing because the air bellows in the air spring strut (40) will be destroyed if pressurized with the suspension compressed.

NOTE: Fill to 5 bar.

15 Tighten the bolted connection between the spring strut and spring link in the ready-to-drive condition

NOTE: Select the normal vehicle level

16 Check AIRmatic for leaks.
