The abbreviation PIN means Personal Identification Number. The PIN is a 4-digit code which acts as a password for telephoning with the telephone system.
It must be entered by the user after switching on the telephone system (entry is optional in the case of the D1 network). Since it is not possible to enter the PIN manually when making a TELE AID emergency call or with a taxi emergency call, particular measures have been taken in order to automate this process: The user can store the PIN in the telecommunications control unit (N112) via the telephone handset (A34). If an accident occurs (signal from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7)) the telecommunications control unit (N112) accesses the stored PIN.
This is the same as manual entry of the PIN and automatically activates the telephone system to allow an emergency call to be placed over the mobile phone system.
The PIN can be changed at any time via the telephone handset (A34) or deleted from the EPROM of the telecommunications control unit (N112).
Do not forget that it is not possible to place a TELE AID emergency call if the PIN has been deleted or not stored. As a signal, the indicator lamp in the SOS switch (S93/3s1) then lights up.
