Component Identification:

TELE AID, general
TELE AID is an automatic emergency call system using the availability of new technologies such as vehicle location finding via satellite and wide distribution of mobile telephone network for reducing accident causes (rescue time reduction). Emergency calls and precise location description are automated by TELE AID and therefore do not depend on incorrect human behavior in stress situations.
Information processing of systems associated with TELE AID is performed via conventional wiring and vehicle's own networking (CAN-B and MOST).

TELE AID includes three services:
^ TELE AID - EMERGENCY CALL
^ TELE AID - TELEDIAGNOSIS
^ MB Info

TELE AID emergency call is supplemented by TELE AID telediagnosis and the MB information service TELE AID telediagnosis allows quick help in the case of a vehicle defect. Requirements and function sequence for TELE AID telediagnosis are practically identical with the function sequence for a TELE AID emergency call.
If vehicle operational problems occur the driver can reach the responsible Mercedes-Benz service points for MB information.

Function sequence for a TELE AID emergency call
A TELE AID emergency call can be activated automatically or manually:
^ Automatically by the restraint systems control unit (N2/7)
^ Manually by operating the SOS switch (S93/3s1) and the emergency alarm system activate button (S62/6) with code (450) taxi version

If an alarm is triggered, the telecommunications control unit (N112) sets up an emergency call telegram, which contains information on the severity of the accident, vehicle identification, vehicle position and type of alarm actuation.
In the event of a defective telephone antenna (A2/22) (model 211.2) or telephone antenna (A2/49a1) (model 211.0), the system automatically switches to the emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/54) and emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/55).
The emergency call telegram is transmitted via the vehicle telephone equipment (D-net).

The number of the service provider that is to be dialed is stored on the SIM card (TELE AID SIM) that is installed in the telecommunications control unit (N112) and is dialed automatically by the system.
The numbers dialed by the system vary according to the requested service. While the Tegaron company is responsible for the TELE AID emergency call, the MB customer assistance center is responsible for the TELE AID telediagnosis and for MB information.
The emergency call telegram is received and decoded by the service provider. The positions specified are transferred into location and street names by means of a street data base and transmitted to the responsible rescue service (usually police) together with additional information from the emergency call telegram.

The decoded emergency call telegram is transmitted to the rescue headquarters by the service provider as follows:
^ Either via electronic data transmission or
^ via a telephone voice connection.

With a TELE AID service (emergency call, telediagnosis, MB information) a voice connection (via mobile telephone network) is accomplished from the vehicle to the associated service point. Then the required rescue measures are started there.
In the event of a missing authorization or a malfunction for a TELE AID telediagnosis/MB information, an error message will also appear in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
Without authorization it is not possible to operate a TELE AID service. In the event of a missing authorization or a malfunction for a TELE AID emergency call, the indicator lamp in the SOS switch is illuminated (S93/3s1) and an error message appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).

Taxi emergency call with code (450) taxi version
General
In connection with the TELE AID emergency call system it is possible to implement the taxi emergency call function through the additional integration of the special vehicle multifunction control unit (MSS) (N26/9) and the activate button emergency alarm system activate button (S62/6).
In an assault situation (risk of physical injury, death), the taxi emergency call enables the taxi driver to actuate a silent alarm via a concealed emergency call button. This is referred to as a silent alarm, because the actuation of the emergency call is imperceptible to the passengers. The GPS position is provided to a serial interface within the emergency call control unit.
For the assaulted taxi driver, a silent alarm means a considerable reduction in the risk of escalation within the vehicle.
After the taxi driver has actuated the emergency alarm system actuation button (S62/6), the emergency call data, together with the vehicle identification and position coordinates (GPS), are transmitted to the emergency call service center via the short message service (SMS).

In contrast to the automatic and manual emergency call, the position message is transmitted every 45 s in order to track the vehicle in the case of taxi emergency call.
In the emergency call service center, the GPS coordinates are converted into position information, supplemented with vehicle- specific data from a database and the responsible emergency call request center (police command center) is informed.
As a result of the immediate integration of the police, threatened taxi drivers can be provided with specific and rapid assistance. The responsible police officer at the command center is now able to listen in to the relevant taxi, in order to obtain a better estimation of the situation.

Function
The emergency alarm base function is used to enable the emergency alarm system. The alarm is activated, if the alarm button that is located in a concealed area of the vehicle interior is operated. The alarm is sent to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) via two-way radio and transmitted on the interior CAN. The alarm can be cleared by operating the reset button, e.g., in the luggage or engine compartment.
In the special vehicle multifunction control unit (MSS) (N26/9) it is possible to program that the "full alarm" is to be activated after only a single button operation. In the special vehicle multifunction control unit (MSS) (N26/9) it is possible to program for each alarm stage via STAR DIAGNOSIS, which alarm is to be activated. The line of the alarm button is checked by measuring the current and checking for an open circuit.

Assistance call function
With the assistance call function it is possible to make an assistance call via the assistance call control unit.
To do this, the special vehicle multifunction control unit (MSS) (N26/9) activates an alarm message for a period of 10 s.
The alarm is activated by pressing the alarm button, which is mounted in a concealed area of the vehicle interior, twice within 3 s, or via radio remote control.

The following features differentiate an assistance call from an emergency call:
^ The emergency alarm system actuation button (S62/6) is additionally installed. It is connected to the MOST via the special vehicle multifunction control unit (MSS) (N26/9) through the telecommunications control unit (N112).
^ For the function of the emergency alarm with code (934) taxi emergency alarm system the telecommunications control unit (N112) and the special vehicle multifunction control unit (MSS) (N26/9) are required.

A previous page describes an emergency call message(TELE AID emergency call) as it is used in Germany. This TELE AID emergency call is activated for testing purposes.
