GF14.00-P-3000P Emission Control, Function
The exhaust gases output by the engine are cleaned by the exhaust system and by a near engine mounted primary catalytic converter and a catalytic converter (TWC). The catalytic convertor is also used to reduce noise pollution. The task of exhaust cleaning is to meet the exhaust emission limit values prescribed by the lawmaker through reducing the following pollutants in the exhaust:
- Nitrogen oxide (NO(X))
- Hydrocarbons (HC)
- Carbon monoxide (CO)
- Particulate matter (particles) (PM)
In addition to emission control, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and intake port shutoff are used (except model 461). EGR reduces the NO(X) content and intake port shutoff reduces the PM levels in the emissions (except model 461).
