Oil Leakage in Area of Oil Pan

If the lower oil pan appears to be leaking oil, check to see if the oil is coming from the drain holes (1, Figure 1) that connect to the V-chamber below the intake manifold. The drain holes are located at:

^ The front of the block in the area of the A/C compressor.

^ The rear of the block in the area in front of the transmission bell housing.

If oil is found in either drain hole; oil is leaking from above the lower drain pan (e.g. oil level switch etc.). Diagnose and repair the oil leak accordingly.

Note (when diagnosing or performing repairs on the lower oil pan):
In order to to make an accurate diagnosis of lower oil pan leaks:

^ Clean area where the lower oil pan meets the upper oil pan then apply white contrast spray (leak detector) A000 989 03 59 (to this area) to find the source of the leak.

^ In the event the lower oil pan is leaking, always remove it by screwing longer bolts into the threaded sleeves on the pan to separate it from the block.

^ In the event it is necessary to remove the lower oil pan, always replace the it since it deforms during removal and proper oil sealing is not ensured if reused. Refer also to WIS AR01.45-P-7555TI.

CAUTION!
Do not remove oil pan using a sharp-edged tool, damage to the block sealing surface may occur.
