CD player mode
Audio CDs can be played using the CD changer (A2/6), which is located in the slot of the center console under the radio (A2). In addition, the system has a single-CD drive in the radio (A2) for playing audio CDs.
The system is controlled by the button panel on the radio (A2) or from the multifunction steering wheel.
Only 12 cm CDs may be loaded into the CD changer (A2/6) and no 8 cm CD adapters may be used. Up to 6 CDs can be loaded.
The control signals from the operating unit and the audio data from the CD changer (A2/6) are transmitted via the MOST bus system (Media Oriented Systems Transport).
The radio (A2) handles the signal processing and amplification as well as the audio gateway functions.
CD player mode is triggered at the operating unit by pressing the CD main function key. After an audio CD is placed in the automatically retracting tray of the CD changer, the following functions are available:
^ Selection of the CD slot in the CD changer and loading the respective CD
^ CD selection
^ Track selection
^ Forward/backward search
If no CD is selected after t = 14 seconds, the CD last played is selected automatically.
^ Current playtime (of track or CD)
^ SCAN function
The music tracks are played for 8 seconds. At the end of the CD, the CD changer switches automatically into the play-forward mode or into the mode last set.
^ Random function
All the titles of a CD are played according to the random principle.
Once all the tracks of a CD have been played once, the next CD is automatically loaded and the random function continues. The random function is repeated until it is deactivated.
^ Repeat function
Alternatively a title, a CD or the entire CD magazine is repeated.
The following functions can be selected in the SETTINGS menu:
^ Normal track function
^ Repeat track
^ Repeat CD
^ Title mix mode
CD title allocation, function
Every CD has a permanently stored Table of Contents (TOC) entry. The audio system recognizes each CD based on this title and can automatically display its name after the title has been assigned once by the user (even if the CD is inserted into a different CD magazine). The TOC record additionally contains information regarding the number of titles on a CD and the CD's total playing time.
The selected CD is displayed in display field 1 (display line 1). After this, the magazine of the selected CD is displayed, provided the magazine has already been assigned an index. The number can be a digit from 0 to 6. If a new magazine is inserted, the display field remains empty until an index is created.
