Function requirements:
^ Voltage supply OK.
^ Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) active.
^ Portable CTEL (A34/6) placed in UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15).
^ Enabled subscriber identification module (SIM) card inserted in the portable CTEL (A34/6).
^ Correct Personal Identification Number (PIN) entered and successful login into the relevant service provider network.

Call set-up
^ After entering the desired telephone number or selecting a stored telephone number using the numeric keypad of the portable CTEL (A34/6) and then pressing the "Accept telephone call" button, the connection is established.
^ After entering the desired telephone number or selecting a stored telephone number using the numeric keypad of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) with code (352) COMAND operating and display system and then pressing the "Accept telephone call" button, the connection is established.
^ The telephone book can be selected with the system selection button (S110s3) on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) and a stored telephone number can be selected with the scroll forward/back button (S110s1). The call is then set up using the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3).
^ After pressing the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2), the connection can be established via voice input with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]).

With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface system (UPCI [UHI]), all calls are exclusively made via the hands-free system while the portable CTEL (A34/6) is in the cradle. The "private mode" is not possible.
The stored telephone numbers are located either on the SIM card or in the telephone's own memory.
If an audio source (e.g. the radio (A2)) is active when the call starts, it is muted, regardless of whether the call is incoming or outgoing. The text "Call" appears e.g. in the display of the radio (A2) or in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) while the system is muted.

Terminating a call
The user has several ways of terminating the call:
^ By pressing the "Terminate call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6).
^ By pressing the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) on the MFL.
^ With code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) by means of voice input using certain commands, e.g. "Terminate", or by operating the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2).
^ By pressing the "Terminate call" control button on the radio (A2).
^ By pressing the "Terminate phone call" button at the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) with code (352) COMAND operating and display system.
