Start-up
Before the telephone is used, it is necessary to log into the telephone network (D-net). To do this, the SIM card (Subscriber Identification Module) is required.
After inserting the SIM card (already in telephone transmitter/ receiver with permanently installed telephone depending on system) and then switching on with the On/Off switch on the telephone handset (A34) or on the portable CTEL (A34/6) it is necessary for the user to enter the four to eight digit PIN code (Personal Identification Number) when requested.
This number prevents unauthorized use of the card and therefore protects against misuse.
Incorrectly entering the code three times in sequence disables the card, which can be re-enabled with the aid of a personal eight-digit re-enable number (PUK, personal unblocking key or also super PIN). This allows entry of a new PIN number.
If the PUK is entered incorrectly 10 times in sequence, the card is rendered unusable and it is necessary to apply to the provider for a new card.
If the number is entered correctly, the telephone logs into the service provider's network; the telephone is ready for use.
Accepting a call
A call can be accepted by the user in a number of ways:
^ Remove telephone handset (A34), the call is placed via the telephone handset (A34)
^ Press the appropriate function key, telephone handset (A34) or portable CTEL (A34/6) remains in the cradle, the call is placed via the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) and the vehicle speakers
^ Press the appropriate function key at the particular control and speak using the hands-free system
^ In vehicles with code (813) voice control system (VCS): operate the VCS switch (S93/2)
^ In vehicles with multifunction steering wheel and multifunction display (A1p13):
operate the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
Placing a call
Just as with receiving a call, a call can be placed by the user in a number of ways:
^ Picking up the telephone handset (A34), after entering the desired number, press the transmit key and wait until the party being called answers.
^ Telephone handset (A34) or portable CTEL (A34/6) remains in the cradle; after entering the desired number and then pressing the transmit key wait until the called party answers.
^ Pressing the telephone function key at the control, dialing number directly or select memory and speaking via the hands-free system
^ In vehicles with code (813) voice control system (VCS): operating the switch VCS (S93/2) and have the number dialed using the voice entry
^ In vehicles with multifunction steering wheel and multifunction display (A1p13):
operating the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
During the call the user can toggle, after operating the appropriate function keys, between the operation mode via telephone handset (A34), portable CTEL (A34/6) or the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) with the vehicle speakers.
When entering the number, it is possible for the user to simplify number entry with the appropriate function buttons by calling up the desired numbers directly from the memory stored for this purpose.
In this case, it is possible to call numbers stored either on the SIM card or in the telephone memory.
If the radio is switched on at the beginning of a call, it is muted.
