"ESP/BAS Defective" or "ESP/BAS Visit Workshop" Displayed in Instrument Cluster





If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of either of the following messages "ESP/BAS Defective" or "ESP/BAS Visit Workshop" displayed within the instrument cluster, and any of the following fault codes stored in the Adaptive Brake (ABR) control unit, perform the following.

1. Perform guided tests as outlined within STAR Diagnosis. If guided tests provide no resolution, then proceed with step 2.

2. Remove engine compartment water collector cowling. Reference WIS document AR82.30-P-6800SX.





3. Unclip wiring harness from body mount (Figure 1, A), in order to gain additional clearance. Do not reattach wiring harness to body mount after repair procedure.

4. Inspect wiring harness (Figure 1, B) for evidence of chafing with right wiper motor M617 (passenger side).

5. If chafing exists, repair wire harness in accordance with WIS document AR00.19-P-0100A.





6. Install a piece of felt tape onto the wiper motor, and secure wire harness to wiper motor with a cable tie (Figure 2, C).

7. Install engine compartment water collector cowling. Reference WIS document AR82.30-P-6800SX.
