Electrical - Various Electrical Accessory Malfunctions

Central Display Opening/Closing Errors or Inoperative, Voice Control Does Not Respond To User's Commands (Hands-free Conversation) and/or Other Party May Not Hear Driver's Conversation














If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles having any of the conditions below, it may be due to an incorrect installation/mating/contact of the iPod Interface Cable (see Figures 1-4) with the COMAND head unit connector. To remedy, replace the iPod Interface Cable. Refer to the appropriate section of WIS Document AZ86.60-P-0014CW.

Conditions

^ Central display opens and closes by itself or inoperative

^ Voice control system may not respond to driver's commands due to head unit connector contacts not mating securely as a result, the connection to the microphone is lost

^ iPod playback intermittently inoperative

^ Left or right side speakers intermittently not producing sound COMAND head unit external fan not operating

Note:
When connecting the iPod Interface Cable to the wiring harness of the Head Unit, please make sure that all individual connections are securely fastened as it is possible individual pins may pass unnoticed. Please ensure that you hear the "click" when mating the connectors and visually inspect both sides of the connector for proper contact. Where possible, please perform a quick continuity check on the leads.
