GF46.50-P-5140CW SPS [PML] Solenoid Valve, Component Description

GF46.50-P-5140CW SPS [PML] solenoid valve, component description
- with CODE (213) Speed-sensative power steering

Component Identification:

Location
The speed-sensitive power steering solenoid valve is located on the rotary valve and pilot bushing housing of the rack-and-pinion steering gear (1).

Task
The speed-sensitive power steering solenoid valve adjusts the power assistance to match vehicle speed as requested by the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4).

Design
The speed-sensitive power steering solenoid valve is a current-regulated proportioning valve.

Function
The electronic circuit for actuating the speed-sensitive power steering solenoid valve is located in the Electronic Stability Program control unit. The speed-sensitive power steering solenoid valve is actuated in a pulsed manner. As vehicle speed increases the flow of current decreases and the speed-sensitive power steering solenoid valve is continuously opened in accordance with a defined characteristic in the Electronic Stability Program control unit.

This regulates the oil flow and thus the torque to be applied to the steering wheel. If the speed-sensitive power steering solenoid valve is actuated with maximum current
(at v = 0 km/h), it is closed. No oil flows and the minimum steering wheel torque is set (e.g. for parking).
