Manually Entering the VIN into the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS)

When replacing the EIS in the above model vehicles, please follow the procedure below when manually entering information into the VIN field in the Star Diagnosis System (SDS).

When using SDS, if automatic transfer of data from the original EIS is not possible, the data must be entered manually. But when entering the data manually, the complete vehicle chassis number (FIN) must be entered in the VIN field. Due to an incorrect data assignment in production, some control units have the vehicle chassis number instead of the VIN. This logic must then be used for the entire lifecycle of the vehicle.

Note:
The vehicle chassis number (FIN) can be found in the Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI) or on the identification plate located on the cross-member under the front passenger seat.
