GF83.40-P-3000CWA Automatic Air Conditioning Control And Operating Unit, Component Description
- except CODE (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning

Component Identification:

Location
The control and operating unit is in the center console.

Task
The control and operating unit controls all of the functions that are needed for vehicle climate control.

Design
The control and operating unit contains the following controls and displays:
^ Left temperature selector wheel (1)
^ Automatic button (2)
^ On/off button (3)
^ MONO button (4)
^ A/C button (5)
^ Defrost button (6)
^ Right temperature selector wheel (7)
^ Increase air volume button (8)
^ Reduce air volume button (9)
^ Air distribution button (10)
^ Display (11)
^ Rear window heater button (N22/7s1)
^ Air recirculation mode button (N22/7s2)

The Mono button is not available in USA vehicles. The MAX A/C The Mono button is not available in button is installed instead.

The control and operating unit provides the following functions:
^ Separate interior temperature selection for the left and right sides
^ Automatic blower control and air distribution
^ Manual blower control
^ Manual air distribution
^ Automatic air conditioning ON/OFF
^ Defrost function
^ Refrigerant compressor ON/OFF (A9)
^ Mono operation
^ Air recirculation mode
^ Maximum cooling output (only USA)
^ Rear window heater control (R1)

The control and operating unit looks after the following actuations:

Via the interior CAN:
- Coolant circulation pump (M13/5)
- Fan motor control unit (N65/2)
- Refrigerant compressor control valve by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)

Via the climate control LIN:
- Fresh air/recirculated air flap actuator motor (M2/5)
- Left blend air flap actuator motor (M2/6)
- Right blend air flap actuator motor (M2/7)
- Defroster vent flap actuator motor (M2/16)
- Air distribution flap actuator motor (M16/22)
- PTC heater booster (R22/3) (with diesel engine)

Direct:
- Blower regulator (A32n1)

The following sensors are read in by the control and operating unit:
^ Direct:
- Interior temperature sensor (B10/4)
- Evaporator temperature sensor (B10/6)
- Left side vent temperature sensor (B10/31)
- Right side vent temperature sensor (B10/32)
- Left front footwell vent temperature sensor (B10/35)
- Right front footwell vent temperature sensor (B10/36)
- Sun sensor (B32/3)
- Interior temperature sensor (N70/3b1) (without code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding sunroof)

^ Via the climate control LIN:
- Dew point sensor (B11/12)

^ Via the interior CAN:
by the front SAM control unit:
- Refrigerant pressure sensor (B12)
- Outside temperature sensor (B14)
by the overhead control panel control unit (N70):
- Interior temperature sensor (N70b1) (with code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding sunroof)

Control possibilities

ON/OFF button
The automatic air conditioning can be completely switched off and on by pressing the on/off button.

Temperature selector wheel
The required target temperature for the left or right side can be selected by rotating the relevant temperature selector wheel. The selected target temperature is indicated by LEDs around the circumference of the temperature selector wheel.

Air volume button
The air volume can be selected manually by pressing the relevant air volume button.
The selected setting appears on the display.

Air distribution button
The air distribution can be adjusted manually using the air distribution button. The selected air distribution appears on the display.

Automatic button
The air volume and air distribution are regulated automatically when the automatic button is pressed. When the automatic mod is activated, the indicator LED comes on.

A/C button
Pressing the A/C button switches off the refrigerant compressor. All other functions are retained.
When the refrigerant compressor is switched on, the function LED illuminates.

Rear window heater button
Pressing the rear window heater button switches on the rear window heater, and the function LED in the rear window heate button comes on at the same time.

Mono button
Pressing the Mono button causes the driver side temperature settings to be taken over for the front passenger side.

Air recirculation mode button
When the air recirculation mode button is pressed briefly (t < 1.5 s), the main air flap is closed to prevent air from entering from outside. The function LED is illuminated during operation. If the button is pressed for longer (t > 1.5 s), the control and operating unit transmits the "Close air recirculation" or "Open air recirculation" command via the interior CAN.
The side windows and the tilting/sliding roof (with code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding sunroof) or the panoramic glass sunroof (with code (413) Panoramic glass sunroof with top sliding sunroof) are then closed or opened.

Defrost button
Pressing the defrost button sets the temperature to "maximum" and distributes the air flow to the defroster vents. All the other flaps are closed. The blower output is controlled depending on the coolant temperature. The function LED in the defrost button illuminates.

MAX A/C button
The basic ventilation level is increased to 100% by pressing the MAX A/C button.
