General information
The voice control system (VCS [SBS]) can be used to call up and operate the individual functions in the driver information system and telephony. The VCS [SBS] is integrated in the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). Voice control can be conducted by spelling out words or speaking complete words into the voice control system microphone (B25/7).

Operating instructions
The voice control can be activated or deactivated using the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
^ Voice control system ON button (S111s4)
^ "Back" and voice control system OFF button (S110s4)

A signal tone sounds after activating the voice control.

Voice control function sequence
The control signal of the VCS [SBS] on button are forwarded in the following way to the COMAND controller unit:
^ Steering LIN
^ Steering column module control unit (N80)
^ Chassis CAN
^ Instrument cluster (A1)
^ Interior CAN

Voice commands are issued over the associated voice control system microphone, which is connected by a discrete line to the COMAND controller unit. Words spoken into the voice control system microphone are converted into an electrical signal and forwarded to the COMAND controller unit. This signal is transmitted by the COMAND controller unit in vehicles with code (810) Sound system to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
From there, the voice output is transmitted via discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker (H4/1)
^ Right front door speaker (H4/2)
^ Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)

In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output takes place directly from the COMAND controller unit via discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker
^ Right front door speaker
^ Center instrument panel speaker

The telephone book not only stores a telephone number and name, but also a voice tag of the name. If the telephone book is transferred from the mobile phone to the COMAND controller unit, all the telephone book entries are then also made available for the voice control system.
