Special Tools:

1 Mark guide dimension (a) on the extraction hook (1).

A strip of adhesive tape (2), for example, is attached to the depicted extraction hook (1) as a mark. The guide dimension (a) is approx. 42 mm.

2 Position extraction hook (1), in accordance with dimension (b), at an angle from the right with the tip of the hook pointing downward, at the insertion position (arrow A). Then carefully insert the extraction hook (1) into the upper gap between the instrument panel (3) and the Audio/ COMAND display (A40/8).

Dimension (b): 83 mm.

3 Insert extraction hook (1) approx. 10 mm and erect it vertically at the same time.
4 Push extraction hook (1) to the side until the extraction hook (1) latches into the hook guide (arrow D) in the instrument panel (3).

Figure B: Hook guide (arrow D) shown with Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) detached. Figure C: Hook guide (arrow D) shown with Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) removed.

5 Push extraction hook (1) vertically downward as far as the mark (2).

Resistance produced by the tightening of the emergency unlocking must be overcome in the process.

6 Turn extraction hook (1) 90° clockwise.

The emergency unlocking opens noticeably.

7 Pull extraction hook (1) out of the instrument panel (3) at an angle to the top right.

The tip of the extraction hook (1) must point downward.

8 Insert the extraction hook (1), with the tip of the hook pointing to the right, into the front gap between the instrument panel (3) and the Audio/ COMAND display (A40/8).
9 Insert extraction hook (1) approx. 5 mm deep, turn 90° clockwise and then carefully pull upward.

This easily opens the cover of the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8). If the cover cannot be moved easily, the emergency unlocking has not been opened completely and the opening procedure must be repeated.
