Shift Paddles on AMG Steering Wheel Loose / Nonfunctional / Broken
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the steering wheel shift paddles being loose, broken or not functioning, do not replace the entire steering wheel. The shift paddles can be replaced separately with the listed parts kit and procedure indicated below.
Note:
It is still possible to shift with the selector lever.
Procedure:
1. Remove steering wheel airbag unit.
Caution! Observe proper safety precautions.
2. Disconnect contact of steering wheel shift paddle.
3. Unscrew threaded connection of steering wheel shift paddle, Torx 20.
4. Replace steering wheel shift paddle.
5. Fasten steering wheel shift paddle, Torx 20 (torque 0.7 +/- 0.1 Nm).
6. Connect up steering wheel shift paddle.
7. Fasten steering wheel airbag unit (torque 7 Nm).
Caution!
Observe proper safety precautions.
8. Perform quick test.
9. Perform a test drive and check steering wheel shift paddle for proper operation.
Note:
If the QEC receives/reviews claims where the shift paddles could have been replaced/repaired instead of replacing the entire steering wheel, the QEC will debit the claim.
