Tasks
^ Xenon bulb output control
^ Control of headlamp range adjustment (without code (487) Active Body Control (ABC))
General
The xenon headlamp control unit (E1n1) and the xenon headlamp control unit (E2n1) operate as a master/slave combination: The xenon headlamp control unit (E1n1) is the master unit, which receives the corresponding signals, evaluates them and passes them on to the slave unit, the xenon headlamp control unit (E2n1).
Xenon bulb output control
When switching on the low-beam function the xenon headlamp control unit (E1n1, E2n1) applies a control voltage to activate within a few milliseconds the xenon headlamp ignition module (E1n2, E2n2). A high-voltage pulse ignites the xenon bulb of the left low beam (E1e2) and the right low beam (E2e2), this then generates an arc between the electrodes. If an arc of sufficient stability is detected, the control electronics of the xenon headlamp control unit (E1n1, E2n1) regulate the voltage down to the normal operating voltage.
Headlamp range adjustment
The xenon headlamp control units (E1n1, E2n1) correct the ranges of light for the low and high beam, when required.
To this end the xenon headlamp control unit (E1n1) reads in the signals of the left front level sensor (B22/8) and the left rear level sensor (B22/7) as master signals and forwards them to the xenon headlamp control unit (E2n1).
The Xenon headlamp control units (E1n1, E2n1) then actuate the left headlamp range adjustment motor (E1m1) and right headlamp range adjustment motor (E2m1) depending on the given situation.
For vehicles with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) the vehicle level is continuously readjusted, a headlamp range adjustment is not available for these vehicles.
