General
The digital TV tuner (A90/3) makes it possible to receive digital television channels in the vehicle and watch them on the display on the COMAND controller unit. In the process, the TV digital tuner separates the video and audio signals from each another.

The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:
^ Function sequence, TV signal reception
^ Function sequence, video signal
^ Function sequence, audio signal
^ Supplemental information

The TV picture is switched off as from a speed of 5 km/h. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the COMAND controller unit display.

Operating instructions
The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the control keys on the COMAND controller unit.

Function sequence, audio signal
After the TV signals have been processed in the digital TV tuner, the audio signals on vehicles with code (810) Sound system, are output by the digital TV tuner via the MOST to the COMAND controller unit and via the MOST to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3). From there, the signals are routed to the following speakers over direct lines:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)

The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker is routed from the amplifier for sound system over direct lines to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and to the subwoofer speaker.

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output by the digital TV tuner via the MOST to the COMAND controller unit and via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)

Supplemental information
Since the digital TV tuner has additional functions, the following differentiations are made:
^ TV reception
^ Additional function

TV reception
Digital television stations are received by the antenna structures already present. The Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB- T) standard is supported. In contrast to analog TV, the audio signal here is received in stereo. The user can prevent switchover between alternative channels by using the "Channel fix" control feature.

DVB-T allows more programs to be received in better quality with a common antenna, including portable, depending on the reception.

Additional function
The digital TV tuner provides the following features:
- Video text (pages: 100 to 899)
- Station list of channels momentarily receivable
- Digital image storage
- Last settings
- National settings
