Component Identification:

Opening trunk lid

The trunk lid can be opened using the following controls:
^ Transmitter key
^ Trunk lid open/close switch, driver
^ Trunk lid external operation switch
^ Trunk lid emergency opening switch (only (United States OF America))

If the trunk lid is locked with the trunk lid locking switch (only (United States OF America)), it is only possible to open it with the trunk lid emergency release switch.

Open trunk lid with transmitter key
If the button "Open trunk lid" is pressed for min. 0.5 s, the transmitter key sends a radio signal to the right antenna amplifier module. The overhead control panel control unit transmits this signal to the EIS control unit via CAN-B. The EIS control unit checks the access authorization of the transmitter key.

If the access authorization is valid, the EIS control unit transmits the command "Open trunk lid" to the PSE control unit and RSC control unit via CAN-B. The trunk lid is unlocked pneumatically by the pneumatic control unit via the remote trunk opening valve.Unlocking is recognized by the rear SAM control unit via the pawl rotary tumbler switch.It transmits the signal "Trunk lid unlocked" to the RSC control unit and PSE control unit via CAN-B. The RSC control unit then actuates the RVC hydraulic unit to open the trunk lid. The RSC control unit monitors the opening procedure for the trunk lid via the trunk lid position sensor.

If the button "Open trunk lid" is actuated again during the opening procedure, or another control for opening or closing the trunk lid is actuated, the automatic drive is immediately stopped.When the button is actuated again, opening is continued.

Function requirements:

^ Vehicle stationary

Actuation of the trunk lid opening and closing switch, driver is read in by the left door control unit and is transmitted to the pneumatic control unit and the RSC control unit via the CAN-B. The trunk lid is unlocked pneumatically by the pneumatic control unit over the CL remote trunk opening valve Unlocking is recognized by the rear SAM control unit via the pawl rotary tumbler switch.
It transmits the signal "Trunk lid unlocked" to the RSC control unit and pneumatic control unit via CAN-B. The RSC control unit then actuates the RVC hydraulic unit to open the trunk lid.

The RSC control unit monitors the opening procedure for the trunk lid via the trunk lid position sensor. When the trunk lid is open, the status LED in the trunk lid open/close switch, driver comes on. When the trunk lid open/close switch, driver is actuated again, the trunk lid opening is stopped.

Actuation of the trunk lid external operation switch is read in by the pneumatic control unit and is transmitted to the RSC control unit via CAN-B. The trunk lid is unlocked pneumatically by the pneumatic control unit via the CL remote trunk lid opening valve.Unlocking is recognized by the rear SAM control unit via the pawl rotary tumbler switch.

It transmits the signal "Trunk lid unlocked" to the RSC control unit and pneumatic control unit via CAN-B. The RSC control unit then actuates the RVC hydraulic unit to open the trunk lid. The RSC control unit monitors the opening procedure for the trunk lid via the trunk lid position sensor.
When the trunk lid external operation switch is actuated again, automatic opening is stopped; actuating again continues the opening procedure.

When the trunk lid emergency release switch is actuated and starts the opening procedure, the pneumatic control unit unlocks the trunk lid via the CL remote trunk lid opening valve.Unlocking is recognized by the rear SAM control unit via the pawl rotary tumbler switch. It transmits the signal "Trunk lid unlocked" to the RSC control unit and pneumatic control unit via CAN-B.

The RSC control unit then actuates the RVC hydraulic unit to open the trunk lid. The RSC control unit monitors the opening procedure for the trunk lid via the trunk lid position sensor.

The trunk lid emergency release switch opens the trunk lid regardless of the vehicle speed or the status of the trunk lid locking switch. The speed is transmitted to the RSC control unit by the instrument cluster via the CAN-B.

Hydraulic actuation
The RSC control unit actuates the RVC hydraulic unit to open the trunk lid. The RVC hydraulic unit contains the RTC proportioning valve (A7/5y3). The hydraulic volume flow is transmitted to the distribution block via the RTC proportioning valve. The distribution block distributes the hydraulic volume flow to the hydraulic cylinder.
