GF82.85-P-3114-08RJ Operating, Display Unit With Control Unit, Function
- with CODE (498) Japan version

Processing key signals
The control buttons and switches on the function keypad in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) are read in over the microcontroller I/O ports and made available to the central processor.Depending on the system function, the button actuations are further processed in the central computer or relayed via Digital Data Bus (D2B) and Controller Area Network bus Class B (interior) (CAN-B) in the form of a data telegram to the other system components.

Graphic editing and image output
The video subsystem takes over editing and output of the control displays. The operating screens are displayed by the graphics subsystem internally via the color video blank sync (FBAS) signal input.
The information and amplitudes of the 3 colors red, green and blue as well as a synchronization signal are included in the FBAS signal.

The control electronics in the display unit evaluates the FBAS signal and actuates the individual display dots line by line in terms of color and intensity. There is a pulse at the end of each line which synchronizes the horizontal video signal. The electronic circuitry of the display unit then starts the next line. After reaching the last line of the display, a pulse is sent, which synchronizes the vertical image signal and the electronic circuit starts at the first line again.

Diagnostic interface and error administration
While the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is active, the system saves all faults that occur in a non-volatile memory. These faults can be read out using STAR DIAGNOSIS via the data link connector (X11/4). Output of the errors on the display unit is not possible. The diagnosis system also encompasses the components connected to the D2B ring. Each D2B component has its own DTC memory.

The errors are sent on request by STAR DIAGNOSIS via D2B to the data link connector (X11/4) where they can then be read out.

Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) ROM disk drive
The integrated DVD-ROM disk drive can be used to play audio CDs and navigation DVDs.

FM multiplex tuner
The integrated FM multiplex tuner receives the traffic messages from the optional Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS)-3 media box. The data are stored for a maximum of 30 min. (up to 100 messages) even during the run-on time of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The traffic messages are decoded and forwarded on request to the integrated navigation processor.

Audio AUX function
An AUX connection in the glove compartment enables an additional device (e.g. Minidisc (MD) player) to be operated.
