Vehicle Starts in First Gear Irrespective of Position of the Transmission Program Selector Switch

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicle with the referenced condition, this is not a vehicle malfunction and no repair attempts should be made. Vehicles with Engine OM642 are designed to always start off in first gear to help avoid overloading the torque converter.

The E320CDI Operator's Manual does not include this information, please inform the customer accordingly.
