Replace Pilot Bushing at Electrohydraulic Unit

This service campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG has determined that on affected vehicles the transmission pilot bushing may leak. Dealer will replace the transmission pilot bushing at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

- Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

- Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 27,853 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

CAUTION:
Ensure the temperature of the transmission is not higher than 50 degrees C prior to starting repairs.

NOTE:
If the vehicle has not been operated in a while, run the engine to fill the torque converter with transmission fluid to reduce the amount of fluid that will run out when the pilot bushing is removed.

1. Remove underbody paneling.

2. Disconnect electrical connector at transmission.

NOTE:
Remove heat shield (arrow, Figure 1) if equipped.

3. Remove pilot bushing mounting bolt (Figure 2); remove pilot bushing.

NOTE:
When removing the pilot bushing, catch any transmission fluid that might leak out.

4. Install new pilot bushing and reassemble in reverse order.

- Torque pilot bushing mounting bolt to 3 Nm.

- Torque heat shield bolt to 6 Nm.

5. Reassembly in reverse order.

NOTE:
Ensure the transmission is cold (approx. 25 degrees C) prior to performing step 6.

6. Remove breakaway locking tab from dipstick and check fluid level (with engine running and transmission in P); the fluid level must be between the min and max marks (A, Figure 3).

- Refill transmission fluid to correct level.

- Install new lock pin on cap.

Special Tools

NOTE:
The above-listed Special Tools have been previously released to all dealers and should already be in your Special Tool inventory.
