Cracking Noise in C-Pillar
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a cracking noise in the area of the C-pillar(s), this may be caused by an incorrectly applied seam adhesive. To resolve, perform the below inspection and repair.
1. Remove the C - Pillar trim. Reference WIS Document AR68.30-P-4490T.
2. Use a bore scope and inspect the adhesive seam inside the outer panel through opening B (Figure 1). This seam is in the area behind opening A (Figure 1).
3. If seam adhesive is improperly positioned on the flange as shown in Figure 2, apply adhesive as per step 4.
4. Using Metering / Application gun (W220 589 03 63 00), apply adhesive (A009 989 36 71) directly over the seam not covered by the factory application (Figure 2, arrows) using opening A (Figure 2) with the extension tube attached to the cartridge.
Note:
Ensure adhesive seam is properly applied over the seam, use a bore scope through opening B while applying the adhesive. Refer to Star TekInfo Star Bulletin S-B-58.30/147 for Bore scope information.
Note:
Please observe the work instructions given on the body adhesive for proper application. If it is not possible to sand the area where the adhesive will be applied, make sure the area is free of oils or wax.
