CHECK GLOW OUTPUT STAGE CONTROL MODULE AND REPLACE IF NECESSARY (OM642 ENGINE)

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles engine running characteristics can be improved during cold starts in low temperatures with the installation of a replacement glow output stage control module. Dealers will check the part number of the glow output stage control module and replace if necessary.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired. If necessary, repair the subject vehicle during the vehicle's next service.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the procedure steps exactly as described.

^ Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 584 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

A. CHECK GLOW OUTPUT STAGE CONTROL MODULE

1. Remove engine cover.





2. Remove preglow system glow output stage control module bracket (A, Figure 1).





3. Check control module part number (A, Figure 2) located on underside of glow output stage.

^ If the part number is A 642 153 22 79: Proceed to next step.

^ If the part number is not A 642 153 22 79: Proceed to Procedure B to replace control module.

4. Reinstall in reverse order.

^ Torque glow output stage control module bracket bolts to 10 Nm.

B. REPLACE GLOW OUTPUT STAGE CONTROL MODULE

1. Disconnect electrical connectors and replace glow output stage control module.

2. Reinstall in reverse order.

^ Torque glow output stage control module bracket bolts to 10 Nm.
