One-Time Use of Expansion Rivet with Sealing Function - Protecting Systems from Water

It has been observed that the sealing action of the expansion or body-bound rivet does not work once it is removed.





1. The expansion rivets become deformed after they have been removed (Figure 1).





2. They can also become cracked after they are removed (Figure 2).





3. Anytime it is necessary to remove one of these rivets, throw it out and replace it with a new one (Figure 3).





4. Critical installation locations are the D-pillar cover in the rear-end door on the Model 251 (Figure 3).





5. Another critical installation location is the body shell cover of the trunk lid as shown on the Model 221 (Figure 4).

6. Other locations include, among others: right rear fender on Model 211; paneling and lining of luggage compartment cover on Model 209 and 211; head protection curtain on Model 219; the A-, B- and C-Pillar paneling on Model X164; and the heater case on Model 221.
