Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair
AR46.10-P-0910P Remove/Install Electronic Steering Lock (ESL)
DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries.
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
- Wear protective gloves, acid-resistant clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
1 Disconnect ground cable of battery
CAUTION: Do not connect quiescent current retention unit as this may cause disturbance to the control module.
2 Remove cover below instrument panel (left)
3 Turn electronic ignition key to position "1"
NOTE: The fixing bolts (37m) can only be removed if the electric steering lock control module (N26/5) is unlocked.
4 Turn and remove fixing bolts (37m) to recess clearance
5 Guide electric steering lock control module (N26/5) backwards out of jacket tube (71)
NOTE: Installation: Guide electric steering lock control module (N26/5) forwards with surface (arrow) into jacket tube (71).
6 Unplug electrical connector (37p)
7 Install in the reverse order
