Location
The CAT temperature sensor is located on the NOx catalytic converter on the top.

Task
The CDI control unit (N3/9) detects the exhaust temperature in the NOx catalytic converter through the CAT temperature sensor. The CDI control unit uses the detected exhaust temperature for the regeneration of the NOx catalytic converter and for temperature control in the NOx catalytic converter during the diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration.

Design
The CAT temperature sensor consists of a metal housing with a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) precision resistor and a 2-pin plug connector.

Function
The PTC precision resistor integrated in the CAT temperature sensor changes its electrical resistance according to the exhaust temperature. Electrical resistance increases as temperature increases.
