GF91.60-P-1100TA Front Passenger Seat Occupied Recognition Sensor, Function

GF91.60-P-1100TA Front passenger seat occupied recognition sensor, function
- up to 18.2.04
- with CODE (494) USA version
- up to 31.5.05
- except CODE (494) USA version
- as of 1.6.05
- with CODE (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR)

Function
The seat occupied recognition determines by way of the front passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48), whether the front passenger seat is occupied or not. A mounted child seat and its direction of installation is also recognized.

The load status is analyzed by the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) in order to decide whether to actuate the corresponding restraint system.

The functionality of the automatic child seat recognition is only given where a DaimlerChrysler approved and control unit coded child seat is used. This child seat must be equipped with 2 transponders (resonators), which are located in its base on the left and right. Transmission antennas in the sensor mat transmit a signal, which is altered by a child seat to match its direction of installation. The signal is received by the receiving antennas in the sensor mat. An electronic analysis system evaluates these signals and transmits the status of the seat occupation or the automatic child seat recognition to the restraint systems control unit.

Optical status indication
The automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp (N72/1e1) in the upper control panel control unit (N72/1) is always switched on at circuit 15 On for a brief period (lamp check). If the front passenger seat is deemed to be not occupied, the airbag Off indicator lamp is switched off.

If a child seat has been mounted or if it is incorrectly mounted, then the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp lights up.

If the front passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor is malfunctioning or defective, the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp lights up and the respective fault is stored in the restraint systems control unit. A corresponding fault message is shown in the instrument cluster (A1).
