Replace Oxygen Sensor and Update Engine Control Module Software

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG has determined that carbon can foul the oxygen sensor upstream of the catalytic converter which may cause the Check Engine Lamp to illuminate. The dealer will replace the upstream oxygen sensor with an improved sensor and update the engine control module software at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

^ Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 7403 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

Note:
^ Use DAS 01/09 with all associated patches or higher.

^ Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS.

^ Connect battery charger (battery voltage >12.5V).

1. Replace oxygen sensor (AR07.04-P-0080TI). Note (regarding above WIS instructions): Do not apply anti-seize compound to oxygen sensor threads as new oxygen sensor has anti-seize compound already applied.

2. Connect Star Diagnosis to vehicle.

3. Install engine control module software:

Follow the DAS path: Control units/Drive/CDI5 Common Rail Diesel/Control unit adaptations/Control unit Programming (follow on screen instructions).

Note:
After successfully completing the engine control module updating the SCN coding is done automatically.
