Preparations For Distance and Comparison Measurements
1 Align the vehicle
NOTE:
- Align the vehicle horizontally in the longitudinal direction by loading with weights as appropriate.
- Measure the inclination across the door sills, e.g. using a spirit level.
2.1 Detach lower engine compartment paneling
- Engine 112, 113, 271
2.2 Remove bottom section of noise encapsulation below transmission
- Engine 646, 647, 648
3 Remove underbody paneling
NOTE: Only remove the left and right rear sections in front of the rear axle.
4 Screw in threaded bolts (07n) with washers (a)
NOTE: To do this, unscrew the foremost bolts from the engine suspension (63).
CAUTION: Always use the washers (a) otherwise the thread may be damaged.
5 Install cradle (07) horizontally and adjust fixtures (07r, 07s) according to the vehicle model concerned
6 Install telescopic measuring rod (06) on retaining bolt (024b) with connecting parts
- Use the relevant measuring probe/bolt (024) for the corresponding distance or comparison measurement.
7 Carry out distance and comparison measurements on front and rear axles
8 Detach cradle (07) and threaded bolts (07n)
9 Install the front bolts for the engine suspension (63), left and right
10.1 Attach engine compartment paneling below transmission
- Engine 112, 113, 271
10.2 Attach bottom section of noise encapsulation below transmission
- Engine 646, 647, 648
11 Install underbody paneling.
