Removing And Installing Brake Shoes Of Parking Brake
Shown On Model 211.0:
Remove/Install
DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of injury, body parts may become jammed or crushed. Risk of injury, skin and eyes may be injured due to brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system
- Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
1 Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
CAUTION: See notes on repairs to brake system
2 Remove rear wheels.
3 Remove brake disks (61) on rear axle
4 Detach front retracting spring (111) using removal and installation tool (040)
5 Detach rear retracting spring (112) using removal and installation tool (040)
6 Remove upper retaining spring (107) using installation tool (041)
NOTE: Compress upper retaining spring (107) and turn 90 degrees to the left or right.
7 Remove upper brake shoes (103)
NOTE: If the brake shoes (103) are scorched or the faces of the brake disks are damaged, the brake shoes (103), retracting springs (111, 112), retaining springs (107) and brake disks must be replaced.
8 Remove adjusting mechanism (105)
NOTE:
- Installation: Apply light coating of MB long-term grease to thread of thrust piece (104) and inner cylinder of adjusting mechanism (105). Turn back adjusting mechanism (105) position on lower brake shoes (103) such that the adjusting wheel (c) points upwards.

9 Remove lower retaining spring (107) using installation too (041) and remove lower brake shoes (103)
NOTE: Compress lower retaining spring (107) and turn 90 degrees to the left or right.
10 Remove expanding lock (109) by folding open the expanding lock (109) and pressing the pin (109a) out of the expanding lock (109) and rear brake cable (86)
NOTE:
- Installation: Apply light coating of MB long-term grease to pin (109a), bearing surfaces and slide surfaces at expanding lock (109).

Inspect
11 Check cap (110)
NOTE: Check cap (110) is seated firmly, check for score marks and deformation, replace if necessary.
CAUTION: See notes on installing cap at brake stator
12 Check rear brake cable (86)
- Check for ease of movement and chafing marks, replace if necessary, install new rear brake cable (86).
13 Install in the reverse order
Inspect
14 Check version of pedal assembly
15 Adjust parking brake
16 Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
17 Use STAR DIAGNOSIS to move brake pads toward brake disks
