GF42.45-P-5118TM Description of Components In ESP Control Unit

GF42.45-P-5118TM Description of components in ESP control unit

Component Identification:

Location
The ESP control unit is located on the traction system hydraulic unit on the right front of the engine compartment behind the lamp unit.

Task
The ESP control unit contains the control for the following systems:
^ Electronic stability program (ESP)
^ Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR)
^ Engine braking regulation (MSR)
^ Antilock brake system (ABS)
^ Brake Assist (BAS)
^ Electronic traction system (ETS)
^ Tire pressure loss warning
^ PRE-SAFE
^ Speed-sensitive power steering (SPS [PML]) (on model 219.3 standard equipment and on model 211.0/2 with code (213) speed-sensitive power steering)
^ Cruise control
^ Limiter (not)
^ Multi-value functions (SBC-Hold, precharging and dry braking)
^ Deceleration coordination of Distronic (DTR) (on vehicles with code (219) Distronic (DTR))

Communication and influence of ESP control unit on other systems in the vehicle:
^ The ESP control unit influences the engine and transmission management in the case of an ESP control.
^ The ESP control unit contains the necessary electronics and control logic of the speed-sensitive power steering (SPS [PML]).
^ For driver information the ESP control unit actuates the instrument cluster via the Controller Area Network-Bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN C)(A1), the instrument cluster actuates the ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) and ESP and ABS warning lamp (A1e41).
^ The ESP control unit supplies the instrument cluster with signals for the multifunction display (A1p13).
^ The ESP control unit passes on the stop light signal via a discrete line to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) for actuating the stop lamp or suppresses this in the event of an active ESP [Electronic Stability Program] control.

In the event of a control from the ASR, MSR and ESP data is exchanged between the ESP control unit and the control units of the engine control and transmission control via CAN-C.

Signal inputs and outputs

Discrete inputs
^ Circuit 30
^ Circuit 87
^ Left front rpm sensor (L6/1/)
^ Right front rpm sensor (L6/2/)
^ Left rear rpm sensor (L6/3/)
^ Right rear rpm sensor (L6/4/)
^ Stop light switch (S9/1)

Discrete outputs
^ Stop lamp actuation
^ Y10PS solenoid valve

Voltage supply
^ Yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor (B24/15)

CAN signals
The ESP control unit is subscriber of the CAN-C and the sensor CAN.
