GF42.45-P-0001-04T Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Driver Information

GF42.45-P-0001-04T Electronic stability program (ESP), driver information

Component Identification:

Displays with various symbols are located in the instrument cluster (A1) for the ESP and SBC.

Switching on ignition and starting engine
When the ignition is switched on (ignition switch in position 2) the warning and indicator lamps light up in the instrument cluster (A1) (bulb check) and go out when the engine is running.

When driving
While driving, the ESP and ABS warning lamp ([]e41) flashes A1e41), as soon as the ABS or ESP is operating. It notifies the driver that the control mode is active and warns when a wheel is beginning to spin and the vehicle is approaching its physical handling limits.

As a result the driving style can be better adapted to the road conditions. As of the end of closed-loop operation the ESP and ABS warning lamp (A1e41) continues flashing for approx. 1 second During a very brief Electronic Stability Program - closed-loop operation the ESP and ABS warning lamp (A1e41) does not light up.

Indicator lamp and multifunction display evaluation

ABS indicator lamp (A1e17)
This lamp is actuated when there is a fault in the ABS system. ABS, ESP, and BAS are no longer available. Normal brake function is maintained. The fault is also shown in the multifunction display (A1p13).

In the event of under voltage < 10 V the ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) likewise light up and the system is switched off. The lamp extinguishes once the voltage rises again.

ESP and ABS warning lamp (A1e41)
While driving the ESP and ABS warning lamp ([]e41) flashes (A1e41), as soon as the ABS or ESP is operating. It notifies the driver that the ABS or ESP control mode is active and warns when a wheel is beginning to spin and the vehicle is approaching its physical handling limits.

As a result the driving style can be better adapted to the road conditions.

As of the end of ABS closed loop operation or ESP closed-loop operation the ESP and ABS warning lamp (A1e41) continues flashing for approx. 1 second. During a very brief closed-loop operation the ESP and ABS warning lamp (A1e41) does not light up.

Multifunction display (A1p13)
Faults in the individual subsystems are shown in the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1).

The fault is stored in the respective control unit and can be read out using the diagnosis tool.

Component Identification:

ESP OFF switch (N72/1s1)
If the vehicle is driven in deep snow with snow chains fitted, the sensitive, stability-oriented control of the ESP may have an unfavorable effect on the vehicle's start-off characteristics.

In such cases, the ESP can be deactivated. The drive torque control loop is then no longer active. A single-sided intervention by the may be effective whilst starting off up to a speed of 40 km/h. When the ESP OFF switch (N72s1s1) is operated the ESP and ABS warning lamp (A1e41) in the instrument cluster (A1) lights up permanently. It is to remind the driver that the ESP is switched off. If one or both drive wheels spin, the ESP and ABS warning lamp ([]e41) flashes (A1e41). This applies across the entire vehicle speed range.
