- with CODE (934) Taxi emergency alarm unit
Component Identification:
Emergency alarm system
The taxi emergency alarm system (Code 934) is a protective feature designed specifically for taxi drivers. This may be activated by the driver if he feels threatened by other persons. Two types of alarm are available:
^ Silent Alarm (Stage 1)
^ Active Alarm (Stage 2)
Alarm actuation
This emergency alarm is triggered either using the emergency alarm system activate button (S62/6) taxi emergency or via the alarm two-way radio remote activation transmitter (A8/4) . The taxi emergency alarm two-way radio remote activation transmitter (A8/4) always triggers the active alarm mode . To prevent inadvertent activation, the taxi emergency alarm two-way radio remote activation transmitter (A8/4) must be pressed twice within 3 seconds to trigger the system
Depending on the version code entered in the multifunction control unit for special-purpose vehicles (SVMCU [MSS]) (N26/9) no there may be audible or visible confirmation signal to verify that the emergency alarm system has been triggered. The silent alarm is not noticeable.
Silent alarm (1st level)
The silent alarm emergency alarm is activated by pressing the system activate button (S62/6) once. The system responds with the following:
^ the roof sign (E14/4) flashes (2.5 Hz)
^ the service radio (A49) is switched to its monitor mode (alarm mode).
^ the left high beam (E1e1) and right high beam (E2e1) flash on and off
The silent alarm is specifically designed to prevent the threatening individual from becoming aware that an alarm has been given.
Cancelation of Silent Alarm (Stage 1)
The alarm is terminated by pressing the emergency alarm system cancel switch (S62/5) one time. This button is located in the vehicle's luggage compartment.
Following cancelation of the alarm all of the systems that it acts upon will revert to their initial operational status.
Active alarm (2nd level)
The active alarm emergency alarm is activated by pressing the system activate button (S62/6) twice (within 3 seconds) or by pressing twice (within 3 seconds) via the taxi emergency alarm two-way radio remote activation transmitter (A8/4) . The system responds with the following:
^ the roof sign (E14/4) flashes (2.5 Hz)
^ the service radio (A49) is switched to its monitor mode (alarm mode).
^ the horns (H2) assume intermittent operation (1.6 Hz)
^ the left high beam (E1e1) , flash on right high beam (E2e1) and off (0.8 Hz)
^ all turn signals flash (2.5 Hz)
^ the front dome lamp (N70e1) rear courtesy lamp and the (E15/3)remain on until the emergency alarm system cancelation button (S62/5) is activated.
Cancelation when activating Active Alarm (Stage 2)
The alarm is terminated by pressing the emergency alarm system cancel switch (S62/5) one time. This button is located in the vehicle's luggage compartment. Following cancelation of the alarm all of the systems that it acts upon will revert to their initial operational status.
Turn signal operation sequence When several systems or devices simultaneously transmit operation requests directed at the turn signals through the vehicle's on-board CAN the defined response sequence is as follows:
priority 1: taxi emergency alarm
priority 2: EDW
priority 3: turn signal indicator function; hazard flashers; open/close
priority 4: hazard warning flashers
Variants
Star Diagnosis can be used to activate and deactivate all individual functions to achieve compliance with various national regulations and/or individual client requests. In addition, the multifunction control unit provides
special-purpose vehicles (SVMCU [MSS]) (N26/9) with the additional option of actuating the LED roof sign lamps. In the event of an alarm's being actuated, the control unit output pole is constantly incorrectly connected thereby allowing the LED to flash with a frequency of 3.7 Hz.
The Star Diagnosis can also be used to deactivate the Silent Alarm function; then pressing the emergency alarm system activate button (S62/6) Active Alarm once will initiate the (2nd level).
