GF82.85-P-2012TM Navigation Mode, Function

GF82.85-P-2012TM Navigation Mode, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)

Using the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3), the location of the vehicle, the direction as well as the distance to the destination (after entry of destination) are determined by the navigation processor (N41/1). Then the required measures for reaching the destination are started (destination-oriented navigation).

Once the navigation system is activated by opening the driver door (in the background), it is immediately operational after initialization via the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

A multi-standard drive is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

After pressing the "NAV" button, the note "Please insert navigation DVD" appears on the display.

If an incorrect or illegible medium, e.g. an audio CD is inserted, an error message appears.

Destination entry
The destination is entered menu-assisted via the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and is processed by the navigation processor. In navigation mode, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit offers the following options for destination input:
^ via destination memory
^ Destination entry
^ Special destinations (e.g. hospital, car park, gas station)
^ last destination entry
^ Entry of intermediate destinations
^ Dynamic route calculation with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
^ Address entry
^ Destination via map
^ Travel guide
^ Destination memory with individual destinations

Predictive text input
When entering the destination the next possible letter is displayed and the relevant letter can then be accepted into the destination entry.

Dynamic completion with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
This function is realized with the manual entry of the destination. While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The added characters are highlighted in black.

Deletion is done by character. The following submenus are displayed in the "Special destinations" menu:
^ location
^ surrounding at actual destination
^ surrounding at a specific location center
^ special destination surrounding

These submenus are subdivided still further.
The search radius is approx. 20 km, however special categories, e.g. airport, have a larger search radius (approx. 80 km).

Position finding
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit continuously calculates the location of the vehicle with the aid of the following procedures:
^ Global Positioning System (GPS) position finding
^ Basic position finding (dead reckoning)
^ Map-based position finding

The navigation processor calculates the most probable position by continuously comparing the results returned by these 3 methods.

Route calculation
The route is calculated by the navigation processor in accordance with the specified destination, or automatically, after a deviated from the suggested route has taken place. During dynamic destination-oriented navigation with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation), the route calculation is influenced by the integration of traffic information offered by an external provider via radio Traffic Message Channel (TMC). The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor.
Destination-oriented navigation starts once the navigation processor has carried out the route calculation
3 types of display can be selected for graphic destination-oriented navigation:
^ Map
^ Map and symbol presentation of the turn-off points
^ Symbol presentation (system of navigation symbols)

The map display is always controlled by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
The following display functions are supported:
^ Destination-oriented navigation map
^ positioning map
^ destination map
^ Route map
^ Auto and intersection zoom
^ Traffic jam map with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
^ parking place map

It is possible to change arbitrarily between the types of presentation. In all instances the destination-oriented navigation is backed up by voice outputs over the vehicle speakers.

When the drive is not used for navigation, it can also be used to playback audio CDs or video DVDs with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation).

Voice output
Voice output is conducted for:
^ Turnoff recommendations
^ USA road numbers (interstate, US and state highways)
^ Compass direction in the USA (North, West, South, East)

Voice control system
Voice control can take place by means of letters or complete word input. Destination-oriented navigation starts once the navigation processor has carried out the route calculation
